Landmark Buildings

BEFORE
AFTER
Many a cast stone, (concrete shape) building or masonry building with cast stone trim elements had an original mineral color wash. This building had remnants of a yellow hue that was once on all the stone. We pointed this out to the owner and found a suitable replacement material to reestablish the detail. We did masonry repairs for over a year period on this building and then a painting contractor applied the mineral stain to the cast stone trim elements.

HISTORIC  BROWNSTONES
Built in the late 1800's, this New York City style "brownstone" home is the only one of its kind in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. The brownstones were pulling away from the back-up brickwork and each stone varied in its degree of degradation.

deGruchy Masonry had to remove the ornate faces of the carved stone that had blistered and exfoliated and repair them. Many stones were fully re-carved in their ornate detail. Some original detailed carvings which were still sound were consolidated. Some 300 stainless anchors were invisibly imbedded to tie the facade back.

Even the minute bedding cracks were repaired using St. Astier colored natural hydraulic lime. The facade was also completely repointed using only St. Astier Natural Hydraulic Lime and sand. Materials from England, France, Germany, Brazil and the U.S. were ordered for the job since getting the right material for the right job is simple and also is the right
thing to do for a one of a kind building intended for another hundred years of vibrant life in this community.
